Two people were taken to the hospital with injuries after a crash that closed part of a heavily traveled road near State College for about two hours on Monday afternoon.

The three-vehicle crash happened just before 12:30 p.m. on the 2200 block of North Atherton Street, according to Patton Township police.

A vehicle attempting to make a left turn from a parking lot onto North Atherton Street was struck by another vehicle, drifted and struck a third vehicle, police wrote in a news release.

Two of the drivers were taken by Centre LifeLink EMS to Mount Nittany Medical Center. Police did not provide information about the extent of their injuries.

The third driver appeared to be uninjured, according to the release.

Police Chief Tyler Jolley said he does not expect any criminal charges to be filed in connection with the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.

North Atherton Street was closed between Valley Vista Drive and Colonnade Boulevard until about 2:30 p.m., and traffic was slow moving for a period after the reopening.

Patton Township Police were assisted at the scene by Ferguson Township police, Centre LifeLink, Alpha Fire Company and PennDOT.
